Ephiphytic bromeliad
I hope I got the name right here. Please let me know if this is incorrect.
Anyway, isn’t it pretty? These are air plants, epiphytes, which live attached to bark and things in the tropical wild. I found this one in my archives from May of last year, taken at the Volunteer Park Conservatory.
Visit Macro Friday, Pink Saturday, SOOC Sunday, Today’s Flowers, Macro Flowers Saturday, Color Carnival, Macro Monday, Mellow Yellow Monday and Cactus Monday. Whew! All great sites with super photography entries you will enjoy.
If only one photo is below, click on Sara’s Fave Photos for the complete blog. Thanks!
How often do you volunteer there? We have a similar green house, but I don’t think they want volunteers.
I don’t know about the name but they are very interesting flowers, so exotic.
Beautiful flower photo!
So very pretty!! HPS!!
Hugs,
Debbie
I just occurred to me how talented God is, just look at all of the different flowers He designed. Just look at this one, stunning.
Stunning shot, the purple/yellow was a nice surprise.
Beautiful colours and beautiful photos.
It really looks special!
And sorry, but I don’t know the name too! ;-(
Love this plant…so pretty!
Happy Pink Saturday!
What a beautiful flower! I had Bromeliads but had no luck in this weather…

I don’t think I’ve seen one of these before but it sure is pretty.
Absolutely beautiful Sara and a lovely combination of color and light in this photo. Have a great week.
Very interesting picture of an Ephiphytic bromeliad. Never seen one like that before. Very pretty!!
You asked about the Orchid tree or Bauhinia variegata. The flowers are conspicuous, bright pink or white, 8–12 cm diameter, with five petals. Variegata refers to the flowers not to the leaves!!
Thank you for visiting my blog,
Gisela.
Sara I love seeing these air plants. I see them in Florida and they are facinating! Mother Nature facinates me! waving from the desert!
That is great! I just bought a pineapple today, and I’m going to try to start it.
What a colour combination! They really are an interesting plant group.
It looks like purple darts shot into a powderpuff!
Another variety of bromeliad my mom would love to see this for her favorite flower is bromeliad. Thanks for sharing!

This is a type of epiphyte called a Tillandsia! There are many varieties! About 540! Water and nutrients are absorbed through the leaves. The roots are used as anchors only to hold them to trees.
Great photo!
Oh by the way…Happy Cactus Monday!
How beautiful!

Too pretty!! Gosh, how many different colors are in that photo. Very lovely flower–very lovely shot. Mickie
I love the colors! No clue what it’s called but it’s wonderful!
Like this shot. There seems to be motion yet there’s stillness too.

What a sweet flower!
Looks like nothing I have ever seen!

I’m voting for you this month. I like Bromeliads as well. Or however they’re spelled!
A beautiful flower! Nurseries and garden centers are great this time of year in the PNW — and not so bad here in Florida!~
