Sundog and wind turbines

Driving home from the middle of the state (WA), we saw a sundog along with the huge wind turbines.

Can you see the faint rainbow in the clouds?

Cabin porch

We spent a few days in this little cabin in the Olympic National Forest. It was built in 1907, and it just so happens we met the granddaughter of the man who built it, a Mr. Finch. In any case, a rainy day on a porch like this is just heaven. Note the yoga mat.

A quiet spot for listening to the rain

Lavender field in Sequim

Not ready to let the summer go. Here’s lavender field from a Sequim, WA field in July.

Joyce General Store

A family trip to the Kitsap Peninsula in Washington included this lovely jaunt to Joyce, WA. The blackberry pie available in the cafe across the street was truly wonderful.

Perfect vacation browse in this old-time general store and post office

‘Old Blush’ China rose

This was one exquisite rose in the New York Botanical Garden, in the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden. The sign said it was developed by “unknown” in 1751. And still perfect.

Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden

Went to visit a friend in New York and we went to the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. I had never seen the huge rose garden there, which was at its peak. If you can ever go, do so. This is less than half of it.

Purple prickly pear

At the Desert Garden in Phoenix, AZ, a new succulent to me, a purple opuntia or prickly pear.

Prickly pear cactus in Arizona, in tones of lavender or purple. See the heart-shaped paddles?

Big Creek

We went camping. Even though the air was hazy with wildfire smoke, it was still beautiful out there.
