Pier at Bowman Bay, WA

Our recent camping trip at Deception Pass State Park at Bowman Bay was blessed with sunny weather. We have had about six weeks solid of sunny weather in August and September in Seattle and it has been fabulous. The most sunshine in the nine years that I have been in the area, and I can’t tell you how much appreciated. In any case, here is a look towards the end of the pier at Bowman Bay. Shall we take a stroll?

Lots of interesting entries in A Piece of Heaven, Skywatch Friday, Outdoor Wednesday, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), and Scenic Sunday. If this is the only photo below, please click on Sara’s Fave Photos Blog above to see the latest posts.

Dark red Oklahoma rose

Since I fed my roses the nasty food they love so much, they have rewarded me with better color, bigger flowers, the works. I did add alfalfa meal, so maybe that’s why they look so good now. Late in the season, but I’ll take it! This deliciously dark red Oklahoma rose is one of my favorites. Isn’t the bubbly looking background fun? Just set that aperture wide and there you go!

This post is joining in Today’s Flowers, Floral Friday, Flower Art Friday, Weekend Flowers, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), Outdoor Wednesday, Scenic Sunday, Macro Monday, My Romantic Home, and Ruby Tuesday 2. The Maiden of Deception Pass

On our camping vacation to Deception Pass State Park in Washington, we stayed in the Bowman Bay area and hiked to Rosario Beach. What fun! The coast Salish native peoples carved large images, not totem poles, and this image of the legend of Maiden of Deception Pass was made for the Samish people by Fidalgo Island artist Tracy Powell in 1983. It is perhaps 20 feet tall! You can see the waters of the Pacific Ocean in the background.

I am participating in A Piece of Heaven, Skywatch Friday, Outdoor Wednesday, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), Scenic Sunday and Shadow Shot Sunday 2. White Japanese anemone

These pretty, late summer Japanese anemone flowers are easy to grow and do well in shade, plus they come back every year! I love perennials. At home I have some tall lavender ones, but these were photographed on an excursion to Whidbey Island, Washington.

Tomato and strawberry harvest

I read that knowing tomatoes are a fruit is intelligent, but knowing not to use them in fruit salad is wise. But when they are growing in your backyard, doesn’t the container of both of them look so pretty? And let me tell you, they BOTH are super sweet!

I’m joining up at My Romantic Home, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), Macro Monday, Shadow Shot Sunday 2, Mellow Yellow Monday and Ruby Tuesday 2. Cactus flower dahlia

Seattle’s Volunteer Park has a spectacular and beautifully tended Dahlia Garden with hundreds of varieties, and now’s the time to visit. With the unusually sunny weather we’ve been having, gardens are so happy, even though more water is needed. It’s on the big lawn across from the Conservatory. If you can, get there while it’s still at its peak. I’ve added a photo of the garden sign so you can find it easily if you go there.

Bicycle shadows

Walking the other day in Fremont, WA, which is Seattle’s answer to Berkeley, CA, I saw this cluster of bicycles in the blessed sunshine. Don’t you just love shadow patterns like these?

Dumas Bay Center view

A few weeks ago I was at a charity event at the Dumas Bay Center in Federal Way, Washington. It’s right at the water, of course, and the broad lawn is perfect for outdoor celebrations. Hope you enjoy view.

Pink orchid macro

At the Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle the other day, the sun shining through the orchids was really wonderful. Those lights and darks really fascinate me. Sorry, but I have no idea of the name of this pretty.

Pink rose macro

Well, the roses seem to really respond to that chemical fertilizer. I held off as long as I could and then gave in. Roses really thrill me and I’ll do pretty much anything to have blooms like this in my garden. Anything that doesn’t cost too much money, that is. Or spray. But I do water, feed, and deadhead. Isn’t it pretty?

I’m linking up at  Flower Art Friday, Flowers on Saturday, Weekend Flowers, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), Floral Friday, My Romantic Home,  Pink SaturdayMacro Monday, Outdoor Wednesday, and Shadow Shot Sunday 2 . Just a pretty, scenic shot of the dockside of Lake Union, off Westlake Avenue in Seattle the other day. Our August weather has been gorgeous! Not one drop of rain, sunny almost all day, every day. Yay!

Zinnias and glads

The flowers for sale at Pike Place Market in Seattle, all locally grown, are the most beautiful I have ever seen, anywhere. The only problem I have is that the photos I take are so intense that I have a real problem choosing one to show. A good problem to have.

Here are some zinnias and glads (gladiolus? gladioli?) for your enjoyment.
