Bare branches

I took this a month ago but no change in the bare branches has occured yet. Spring is showing a few early hints, but not so you’d really notice. This was taken at dusk at Volunteer Park, close to my favorite haunt, the Conservatory. They’re doing a Wine and Chocolate Tasting for Valentine’s Day, by the way. How romantic!

This photo is, or will be, linked to these memes: Outdoor Wednesday, Scenic Sunday, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), A Piece of Heaven and Skywatch Friday. If you have arrived via a link and there is only one photo below, click on Sara’s Fave Photos to see the rest of them. Thanks for visiting!

Winter tree reflections

One of Seattle’s nice old brick buildings in the Greenwood neighborhood, with the winter tree shapes casting shadows on the building and reflections on the glass. I was driving by, stopped at a red light, and blessedly had time to get the window down and snap the photo. Sometimes you’ve got to be quick! I like the way the sky in the window is almost more important than the real sky, and I’m calling this my Best Post of the Week.

Christmas lights

There’s a family not too far from me that really goes all out in holiday decor. The years that this address makes it into the newspaper holiday light guides the cars are double-parked outside, but this year no one called it in, so we were able to enjoy it in peace, you might say. See Santa waving? This is only a small part of the display. I love  over-the-top shows like this, don’t you?

A very merry Christmas and holiday celebrations of all kinds to you.

Harp player

The other night at the lighting ceremony at Seattle’s Volunteer Park Conservatory, there was magical harp music. In that mysterious and romantic environment, it only sounded more beautiful, if that is possible, than harp music usually does. Wish I had a video of it, but I’m a still camera kind of gal, at least so far.

I like the special mood of this photo and I’m calling this my Best Post of the Week.

Pink sunset

When a sunset gets going in the pink mode, it can really get going, but you have to be quick to get it at the peak. This view to the southwest in my backyard was perfect for yesterday’s display of the year, sunset-wise. The photos taken seconds right before and right after this one were great, but this one was oh-my-goodness—to me, at least. I sure love the digital camera thing that lets you take so many, because in the film days, I might have taken only one or two and not gotten this show. And I surely wouldn’t be sharing it with the entire world!

Leaves in the wind

We had some big wind, and that means the pretty leaves are leaving. Sigh. They were so very lovely this year. Let’s give thanks for their show for us, shall we? An attitude of gratitude is the way to live life, all year round.

Take a peek at Ruby Tuesday, Scenic Sunday, Wordless Wednesday, Outdoor Wednesday, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), Skywatch Friday and Blue Monday, if you can. Do browse here first, and hope you enjoy what you find. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Birds on the water

We were at the Normandy Park, WA cove and saw a huge bunch of birds (common murres?) on the water. This photo shows only a small portion of them. They were sitting out there and then, whoosh, they all went into the air at once and settled a ways away. Quite beautiful to see them fly like that.

Island passage

Some of you may remember a similar image from last year. Up at Anacortes, WA, our friends took us out on their boat in September, crabbing among the San Juan islands. The weather was changing, but here was a spot of calm weather, and how scenic can you get?

Boat ramp

I’m still not ready to let summer go. In August we went on a brief camping trip on the Olympic Peninsula (Western Washington) and visited this little lake, Wildcat Lake. Boat ramps intrigue me. When I first saw one as a child, I didn’t know what it was and was mystified. A road into the lake? How strange. I still think they are evocative, you might say. Just waltz right in . . .

Polish pottery

I’m not even sure if this shop downstairs at the Pike Place Market in Seattle is still there. I was thinking of a photo for the theme of Pattern and found this image from last year. I love the combinations of the patterns! Wish I could have every single one of these squat and charming objects. They have a very toy-like appeal to me. Let’s play!

Totem pole against the sky

This being the Pacific Northwest, it’s not so totally surprising to find a big totem pole at someone’s house, overlooking Puget Sound. But still pretty darn unusual. I like it very much, especially on a day like this one.

Red chairs in Poulsbo

Visiting Poulsbo, WA last week for the first time (locals pronounce it POLS-bo) we had some coffee looking out at Liberty Bay. Nice, huh? Nobody does a great summer day like the Seattle area, in this case, on the Kitsap peninsula, an hour or two from Seattle. An extremely cute Norwegian town, perfect for a summer afternoon.

Take a look at Watery WednesdayOutdoor Wednesday, Scenic Sunday, Shadow Shot Sunday, Ruby Tuesday and Color Carnival for some fascinating photo fun. You might try a new tag or category here before you go, though. Click on Sara’s Fave Photos to get to the newest post here.
