I know a dahlia grower over in Des Moines, Washington. He grows about 250 different kinds of dahlias. I wish he would use a computer and see this photo (mong many) I took of his flowers on a fine September day. It looks a bit Christmassy, doesn’t it?
I like the neat shadows on the petals. Visit Hey Harriet for more cool shadows.

Only two months ago, but such a difference. Outside the rain continues, but I can marvel at the perfection of a dahlia that was. Didn’t my garden look good? This was a great gardening year in Seattle, and I salute it.

I do still have a few dahlias that got a late start this year and are now at their peak. They are just so exuberant!
Visit Flowers for Today for the most amazing flower photos. And check out Color Carnival for more bright colors to amaze and amuse. Macro Monday has more close ups, and Mellow Yellow Monday (of course!) more yellow.

There are a few dahlias left, not many, and as we move to winter, they are so appreciated. I like the bamboo reflected in the window here, in back of my house. Doesn’t the new paint color look good? It was a dark brown before.
For more pink visions, visit Pink Saturday. And check out Weekend Reflections, too. Try Window Wednesday, too, even though it’s not the right day.

So many dahlias in these last brilliant days of summer. Here’s a pink one for your delectation, just for Pink Saturday.

I am trying out a new meme called Thursday Challenge, and the theme this week is “Fresh.” This here is one fresh flower! I sure love dahlias, in their infinite colorations and forms, and the way they truly embody the word “fresh” as they open their petals to our view.

I was lucky enough to be given a gift of a green Depression glass vase. I am thrilled! The green is my favorite color, and it’s in perfect condition. Here it is with a bouquet of dahlias, picked after the big rain last week toppled a tall, brittle stem that was covered with blossoms. Sometimes I find it hard to cut as many flowers as I want, but if they’re down already, I am exonerated of all guilt.

We had a heavy rain recently and dahlias stems can be quite brittle. This one bent over very far but thankfully didn’t break. Somehow the back of it looked even better to me than the front. At least this way you can get an idea of the border beyond it that I’ve worked on so hard. I love to garden, that’s for sure, so it’s not truly work.
For more pinkness, visit Pink Saturday. Delightful.

As I said below, the quarterly Chinook District meeting of the local garden clubs is just great. The best part for me, besides seeing people who have become friends, is the opportunity to photograph flowers, and great specimens at that. The dark red dahlia below was grown by yours truly and almost won best in show! Only almost, but still.

This dahlia, from Cindy’s amazing garden in Kent, WA, looks almost like a lotus or a peony. Enjoy for Pink Saturday!

Today (Sunday) is the first anniversary of one of my favorite memes in the blogosphere, Flowers For Today. This idea was created by Luiz Santilli Junior one year ago today, and I am honored to be Guest Friend on this special day. Thank you, Luiz! It’s so true that everyone loves flowers.
Below is my photo which is posted on their site today. It was taken just a few days ago on my patio here in Seattle, and I grew many of the plants from seeds. Dusty, our cat who is posing so nicely, is the kind of kitty who loves everyone. If you visit, she will love you, too. She is an inspiration to me.

I thought I’d post a couple of extra flower pictures today, in honor of this special day. Below are flowers from my friend Cindy’s amazing deck and garden, and one of her dahlias. Enjoy this happy day.

They are so beautiful and they are still doing what they do: give such pleasure. Here is another, just for you.
