Threatening sky

Rose gardeners PSA: If it’s going to rain big, go out there and cut your opened roses for bouquets. They’ll just get ruined if you leave them out there.

Rain is coming. Might as well cut roses and bring inside.

Cloudscape and grapevine

The other evening the sky was spectacular in our Seattle backyard.

Backyard light

The days are getting shorter. A view of my backyard in the late afternoon light. Love those leek flower balls!

Fir trees and huckleberry bushes

The view from our campsite in Scenic Beach State Park, WA last week.

Many, many tall Douglas fir trees with huckleberry bushes underneath (sadly all done)

Scenic Seabeck WA

On the way to Scenic Beach State Park Campground, this view near Seabeck was pretty scenic indeed. See the tiny boats in the distance?

Two flowerbeds

My backyard a couple of weeks ago in late July. Don’t the pointy iris leaves look good?

Deck flowers

My friend Cindy has the most incredible flowers. These were in flower boxes on her deck last month.

Julia Child rosebush

Happy Solstice! Here’s a portrait of sunshine. I planted this ‘Julia Child’ David Austin rosebush three years ago, maybe four. It’s on its own roots. I have never seen such a vigorous, floriferous rose. The Carding Mill I bought at the same time is less than one quarter the size. The only tiny complaint I have is that the flowers lose their exquisite, pale yellow petals very quickly after the roses are fully open.

Only a few years old, this Julia Child rosebush is the star of the bed

Backlit irises

Glorious spring weather this weekend in Seattle. The red roses (‘Crimson Glory’?) are on a bush I rooted myself! Beyond the little plum tree, the rest of the yard is my lovely neighbor’s.
