Perennial sunflower

These cheerful yellow perennial sunflowers come back every year, spread in a reasonable manner, bloom when not that much is happening, and look good even under smoky conditions. Seattle’s air is not too good, but it’s better than other places for sure.

Yellow to the max!

Smoky sky

We are grateful that the air in Seattle is not worse. We are not dealing with orange visions of armageddon, just “very unhealthy” levels of air pollution, blowing in from fires not very close by, thank goodness.

Rain coming

We are students of clouds and cloud cover in Seattle. It doesn’t actually rain that much, about the same as New York City per year, but we have more cloudy days than any other city, I’ve heard. So we look at the sky a lot to check if it’s clearing up. Or not. Loved these exciting, swirling clouds before some recent rain.

Forest scene at Big Creek, WA

This campground photo from several years ago I offer as a way to remember what the woods feels like. Not this year for us, but maybe next year.

Grape hyacinths

Also called muscari, these darling little bell-shaped flowers are a favorite early spring flower, even though they have no fragrance. See my pink magnolia in the background, almost blooming? Spring is truly here.

Forsythia blooming

Happy Spring Equinox! We are blessed with sunny weather in Seattle this whole week. Don’t know why we don’t see more of these forsythias around Seattle but I love them.

Pink cherry blossoms

I admit that these cherry blossoms are from the archives (but were taken on this date). Spring will be here soon!

Tawny the horse

From ten years ago, Tawny grazing the horse pasture next door, taken from my yard. A big house and garage are there now, all fenced in. Life is change.
