Ferns on mossy trees

I find these ferns enchanting. After a beautiful and very dry summer, it rained in the early fall a couple of good inches, just enough to get things going in the woods.

Fall forest

We’ve been walking in the woods, just a bit, but it’s wonderful and makes me happy. The forest is my happy place.

Ferny, mossy log

We have been taking mini-hikes in a wooded park near me in Seahurst Park in Burien, WA. Today it was raining quite hard. Can you tell this is in the Pacific Northwest?

Parking lot shadows

I’ve discovered a park with hiking trails near me—Seahurst Park in Burien, WA. I am so pleased to be able to take advantage of them, since I am more mobile than I have been for quite awhile. Five weeks after my first try here, I see a lot of improvement!

Forest path

This photo means a lot to me. My health was kind of iffy for a long while, but now I am able to take a short mini-hike in the woods. I have missed this so very much.

Rose garden shadows

We visited Woodland Park Rose Garden in Seattle yesterday, in perfect weather. I need more pink roses in my life.

Spring garden

Yesterday Seattle had just incredibly gorgeous weather: delightfully warm, sunny, and calm. Did I mention warm and sunny? It has been so very cold and gray this year, so I treasure these rare bursts of heaven. The irises are gearing up.

My garden and part of my neighbor’s. Bluebells and forget-me-nots, plus irises to come.

Pink pieris

Also called Japanese andromeda, pieris is a stellar shrub that thrives in the Pacific Northwest. And they are fragrant! Little bells of wonderfulness.

Overlook vista

A Pacific Northwest winter scenic view, from a few years ago, taken a block from my house. You can see Vashon Island across the Puget Sound. Happy New Year to all!

Happy Solstice!

Tonight is the year’s longest night in the Northern Hemisphere. In Seattle, today was only eight hours long. But now the light returns! Today is Winter, but we move onwards every day towards the Equinox, and Spring.

The shortest day of the year means the darkest times are behind us.

The last leaves fall

Just a day or so ago the rain and wind picked up and the leaves began to fall in earnest. The next day they were all gone.
