The last leaves fall

Just a day or so ago the rain and wind picked up and the leaves began to fall in earnest. The next day they were all gone.

The very last leaves fly from the trees in my front yard

Rain coming

Ooooh, that was one dark sky! Sunny, windy, but not yet rainy. I did no photo adjustment to speak of, either; this image is very faithful to that vista. But just for fun, put “rain coming” in the search bar and see if you like those any.

Red maple tree

This year some trees are doing the magical thing. This maple tree has become completely red, in a friend’s backyard the other day.

Old cedar tree

This cedar tree in my back yard looks like a regular-sized tree, until you realize the fence is six feet tall and the bench is a regular garden bench. Our guess is that the tree is maybe 300 years old. It is getting ready to drop some needles like it does every fall. It is waiting for rain, like we all are in Western Washington.

Very old cedar tree dwarfs the bench below it.

Japanese maple leaves in autumn

Not this year, but a few years ago on this date, the leaves were very, very red.

Tree leaves backlit

Got to go on a very short woodsy walk in Central Washington, haven’t for a very long time. The sun peeked out and the leaves above lit up. Bliss for me.

Leafy pattern above. Can you see the shaggy lichen on the branches.

Brown Cow

Out in the countryside, in Lewis County, WA, this lovely bovine posed for a photo. Mooooooo.

Beautiful soft brown cow, outstanding in her field

Late hostas

In a local Seattle park, I saw a different kind of hosta that’s only starting to bloom right now in mid-August, much later than mine at home nearby. The starry white flowers had a sweet fragrance.

Orange lilies

This is my backyard, with the kale flowering in the background. There are three different kind of orange lilies in this photo. Upper right is an oriental lily, lower left are Peruvian lilies, or alstroemeria, and in the center and lower right are daylilies.

Wave clouds at Galaxy golf course

Hubby was golfing on our little Whidbey Island vacation and saw these wave clouds! And it was so scenic, as well!
