Geranium bud

Sometimes the bud stage is my favorite. The sense of possibility!

Crescent moon

We were so lucky to be able to stay at a cabin in Freeland, WA on Whidbey Island with an incredible view. The weather has been unbeatable, so warm and clear.

Muscari buds

Sometimes the bud stage is as nice as the fully flowering one. The sense of promise! This patch of grape hyacinths or muscari is getting ready to bloom very soon.

Succulents at Longwood

A few years ago I was lucky enough to tour the incredible Longwood Gardens outside of Philadelphia. My goodness, just stellar. Here is a shot of some succulent plants.

Houseplants in afternoon sunshine

Winter’s big plus up in Seattle is that the sun, when it’s shining, comes way deep into the room if you have a southern exposure. The plants are a bit confused as they get no direct sun in the summer but of course then there are much longer days.

Dried blue hydrangeas and a Thanksgiving cactus on mom’s glass-topped table, I think from the 30s.

Drying hydrangeas

This is the perfect time to see if any of your hydrangeas are ripe for drying. The petals need to be crepe-y,  sort of wrinkled, but still have good color. I put them in an inch of water, at the most. When the water evaporates in a few days, the flowers should still look wonderful. Voila!

Two bouquets

Another rose photo of the flowers I had to pick before the big rains here in Seattle. A lot of rain ruins roses.

Clouds and moon

There were almost explosive cloud forms recently, with a crescent moon for decoration on the skyscape.

Grape hyacinths

Also called muscari, these darling little bell-shaped flowers are a favorite early spring flower, even though they have no fragrance. See my pink magnolia in the background, almost blooming? Spring is truly here.
