Daffodil bouquet

The weather may still be wintry here in Seattle this year, but those daffodils never cease to thrill.

Sun and warmth are promised!

White amaryllis

A new kind of decor bulb for me, an amaryllis in a wax jacket, all ready to go. No planting, no watering, all inside the bulb! How magical is that? We chose a large bulb and were rewarded with two flower stems.

Sedum on a pumpkin

Some garden friends got together and we made a bunch of these autumn decor cuties with sedum from our gardens, craft supplies like hot glue, and mini pumpkins. Super easy, super fun. We didn’t scoop and plant with dirt, just glued them on. Maybe some of the sedums will make it enough to be rooted later. Or not.

Some moss, dried cones, and colorful sedum make a beautiful fall decor piece. Doesn’t it look like a flower?

Lavender Grosso

I am lucky enough to have surprisingly good conditions for growing lavender. Most of it is pretty much spent at this time of year, but the lavender grosso blooms latest and is still nice to pick and dry. Intensely fragrant, it’s good in little organza bags in your closet to repel moths. But maybe I should make a wreath?

Just harvested lavender grosso, ready to dry for sachet or cooking.

Lilac bouquet

Cut lilacs from the garden don’t last long in bouquets, but that fragrance! Intense and gorgeous.

Roses and orchids

Someone sent me the most wonderful flowers as a get-well bouquet. I am beyond thrilled. It will help speed recovery for sure!

Autumn roses

Not this year’s roses, but picked exactly at this time of year. Every year I reward myself with an autumn bouquet.

Rose harvest

I hate cutting my roses since I can see the rose bed from the house and they look so lovely out there, blooming for me and any passers-by. But I had to pick them ahead of the big rain.

Rainbow bouquet at NWFGS

We are certainly missing the annual huge Seattle Northwest Flower & Garden Show/Festival, held every year in early spring but sadly cancelled this year due to COVID-19. I am very excited about things getting back to normal and gatherings opening up, not yet, but soon. Wear your mask and get vaccinated!

Drying hydrangeas

This is the perfect time to see if any of your hydrangeas are ripe for drying. The petals need to be crepe-y,  sort of wrinkled, but still have good color. I put them in an inch of water, at the most. When the water evaporates in a few days, the flowers should still look wonderful. Voila!
